ArcBest Corporation, formerly known as Arkansas Best Freight System Inc., is a leading transportation and logistics company with a rich history that traces back to its humble beginnings as a local freight hauler in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The company has undergone several significant transformations and expansions over the years, solidifying its position as a reputable player in the industry.

The origins of ArcBest can be traced back to 1935 when OK Transfer, a local freight hauler based in Fort Smith, Arkansas, acquired Arkansas Motor Freight (AMF) and began operating under their name. This strategic acquisition allowed OK Transfer to expand its operations and establish a stronger presence in the freight transportation sector.

In 1956, Arkansas Motor Freight made a pivotal move by acquiring Best Motor Freight, a notable freight transportation company at the time. As a result of this acquisition, the company rebranded itself as Arkansas Best Freight System Inc. and subsequently adopted the abbreviated name, ABF, a year later.

ABF continued to evolve and thrive, achieving significant milestones along the way. In the early 1970s, ABF made its debut as a publicly traded company, listing its shares on the prestigious New York Stock Exchange. This move allowed ABF to attract new investors and further expand its business operations.

Freight Density Calculator

Use Our Tool

To determine the freight density of your shipment, you need to calculate its cubic feet by using the length, width, and height of the load. You can do this by dividing the weight of the load by its cubic foot. The resulting value is known as pounds per cubic foot (PPCF). Keep in mind that the NMFC classes may vary based on handling, liability, and stowability, which can impact the cost.
